AIM
Present key theories, research, and clinical practices related to alcohol and drug problems and addictions in Aotearoa and integrate these into counselling practice.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course students will be able to:

• Evaluate patterns of alcohol, drug, and behavioural addictions in
  Aotearoa, accounting for the influence and impact of cultural dimensions.
• Discuss theories, models, concepts and research which informs the
  causes and the presentation of addiction and the processes of change.
• Account for the differences in clients related to ethnicity, gender,
  and age and consider spiritual issues, in the presentation and
  addressing of addictions.
• Apply concepts of assessment with clients presenting with alcohol and drug and behavioural addictions identifying when referral is required and what community resources are available
• Competently demonstrate interventions to address alcohol and drug issues and addiction and integrate these into a counselling context.
